I called three times to make an appointment and only got the answering message. I left one message and then decided to just drop in.

I walked into the leasing office and introduced myself with my first and last name and said I wanted to look at an apartment. She told me she was Meshell. She asked if I was interested in a 1st or 2nd floor. She offered me a seat.

Meshell seemed very tired and was yawning during the beginning of the onsite visit.

Once I introduced myself she offered me a seat. She asked if I was interested in a 1st or 2nd floor. I said I didn’t have a floor preference. She immediately began telling me about the minimum and maximum income to qualify. She was yawning as she was telling me. She seemed very tired.

Meshell asked me what size apartment and I told her I needed a two-bedroom. She then quoted me the income necessary to qualify. She asked me the number of occupants. I told her me and my husband and she gave me the combined income. She quoted me the monthly rate range of $765 and $810 for the floor variance. She told me what was included in the rent and I would have to pay the electric bill. She told me about the application fee and told me what I needed to bring to apply. She informed me of the background check and security deposit.

She asked if I had any questions. I told her I work part time and come home later in the evening and should I be concerned of any safety issues. She said she has been there since September and she has not heard of anything and she made me aware of their after-hours security and they report directly to the local police department so I could check with them.

I asked her if there were a lot of kids in the community and she said they have a diverse community and they don’t discriminate.

Meshell did ask for my ID before the tour.

As we began the tour Meshell pointed out the gym and gave me the hours of operation. She then told me about the laundry facility, but she did not show me. She told me the hours of the pool. She told me about the bus line nearby.

Meshell apologized about the trash in the parking lot and said they are working it. She told me they have had a lot of company changes.

We went to a 2nd floor apartment and it didn't have lights or heat. The vacant looked like it was being turned and not completed. Some appliances were missing. Meshell walked me through each room and pointed out the closet space and the features of the apartment. I told her it looks nice inside the apartment.

During the greeting I asked about a lot of kids in the community and she handled that objection to my satisfaction so points given.

As we toured Meshell was focused on pointing out features in the vacant and did not seize the opportunity to ask me questions about where I currently lived or why I was moving. No questions were asked about my apartment search.

As we walked back to the leasing office, I asked why there was so much trash in the parking lot and she said, “honestly, this is people just throwing trash out of their cars.” She did mention onsite maintenance and emergency maintenance. We talked about what was an emergency and she said she has a list she can share with me. She made sure to tell me that, as a resident, I am a priority.

Meshell asked for my phone number, email address, and move date. She reviewed my floor preference again. She did ask me if I wanted to apply and I told her we were still looking. She gave me some information to take with me and thanked me for coming in. She asked me to set a return appointment and if not she would keep in touch with me.

Meshell seemed very disengaged at the beginning but became more engaged as we walked to the vacant. She looked tired and not enthusiastic throughout the tour.

When I pulled into the parking lot, I noticed bits of garbage that seemed to be flung from cars. I also noticed that the parking lot was in need of repair. The office was neat.
